Nucleus (Yoga Sculpt)
A heated 60 minute Vinyasa-style class with hand weights. This class encompasses the calm of yoga, and energy of strength training.
Nucleus is ALIVE's yoga sculpt class: a vinyasa-style flow with hand weights, practiced at 92°F and 50% humidity. It keeps the breath-linked structure of a flow class and adds resistance to it: lunges become weighted lunges, warrior holds pick up biceps curls, and familiar shapes suddenly cost more. The class sits between two worlds, the calm of yoga and the energy of strength training.
The mechanism is time under tension. Yoga already loads your body with its own weight; adding dumbbells extends that load to pulling and pressing patterns yoga alone can't reach, and holding light weights through slow, controlled movement accumulates far more work than the size of the dumbbells suggests. The warm room keeps muscles pliable while they work. If you've wondered whether yoga "counts" as strength training, Nucleus is the class built to close that gap. Resistance work matters for keeping the muscle you have, which is a bigger deal than most people realize.
Do I Need to Be Strong Already?
No. You choose your own weights, and choosing light, or setting them down mid-sequence, is a normal part of the class rather than a concession. The flow works with or without the load; the dumbbells just set the difficulty. Newer practitioners usually start light and find their working weight within a few classes. If the flow format itself is new to you, a few Glow classes first will make the movement vocabulary familiar.
Is Nucleus Cardio or Strength?
Both, and that mix is its niche. The class blends three things: flow, short cardio bursts, and strength training. The continuous movement keeps your heart rate up the way Big Bang does, the bursts push it higher, and the weights add the resistance stimulus a pure flow class doesn't have. It won't replace a heavy barbell program, but as a single session that trains strength, mobility, and conditioning at once, it's one of the most complete classes on our schedule. Members who want more of this lane often pair it with Spark or Universe on the fitness side.
Who Nucleus Is For
- Yoga practitioners who want strength work. Keep the practice you love and let it start building muscle too.
- Lifters who need mobility. Coming from the other direction, Nucleus sneaks a full yoga class into a workout that still feels like training.
- People short on time. Strength, cardio, and flexibility in one session is an efficient answer to a crowded week.
- Anyone protecting muscle long-term. Resistance work is how you keep what you've built, through busy seasons, through aging, through weight changes.
What to Expect
Moisture-wicking clothing and water. Mat and towel provided, and the dumbbells are ready in the studio: grab a light set and a medium set, and switch between them as the sequence demands. Expect a flow-class rhythm with strength work woven through it, an uplifting tempo, and a total-body reach with the back, biceps, and legs doing the most talking the next day. Classes run in coached and immersive formats (how to choose).
How Often
Two to three classes a week, spaced so worked muscles get a day to recover. Nucleus alternates well with pure flow days like Glow or a restorative Aura.
Where to Practice
Nucleus is offered at our Plano, Southlake, and Las Colinas locations.
