Molecule (Yoga Core)
Develop strength and flexibility from hips to shoulders with focused, resistance training applied to accessible postures.
Molecule is ALIVE's yoga core class: focused resistance training applied to accessible yoga postures, practiced at 85°F and 50% humidity. The postures give the class its shape; the resistance gives it its work. The target is the whole span from hips to shoulders, the connected chain of core, back, and stabilizers that everything else you do depends on.
The idea is simple and effective: take positions your body already understands (lunges, bridges, planks, seated shapes) and load them, so muscles that normally coast through a yoga class have to work. Training the hips-to-shoulders chain this way builds strength and flexibility together, because every loaded position is also a stretch held with intent. It's core training as a system rather than an ab routine, and the gentle 85°F warmth keeps the muscles pliable while they're under load.
Is Molecule Yoga or Strength Training?
Both. The vocabulary is yoga; the stimulus is resistance. If you want the flowing, faster version of that combination, Nucleus is our yoga sculpt class, vinyasa with hand weights in a warmer room. Molecule is the more grounded of the two: accessible postures, steady pacing, and a tighter focus on the core and its neighbors. Many members use Molecule as the strength foundation and Nucleus as the cardio-flavored progression.
Who Molecule Is For
- Anyone whose core is the weak link. If planks shake early and balance poses wobble, this is the class that fixes the middle.
- Posture and back-care goals. Strength and flexibility from hips to shoulders is exactly the prescription for a body that sits all day. Here's why that matters more than most people think. Existing back pain? Doctor first, then tell your instructor.
- Yoga practitioners adding strength. Familiar shapes, new stimulus, and the gains show up in your other classes fast.
- Beginners who want strength work without intimidation. The postures stay accessible and everything scales.
What to Expect
Moisture-wicking clothes and water. Mat, towel, and the resistance equipment are all provided. Expect slower, controlled work: positions held and loaded rather than flowed through, with the burn arriving in places yoga alone doesn't find. The next-day awareness through your midsection and shoulders after your first class is normal and short-lived.
How Often
Two to three sessions a week, with a day between when you're new to loaded work. Molecule pairs well with Gravity (Pilates precision one day, loaded postures the next) or with a flow class when the middle of the week needs movement instead of load.
